History

In February 2006, Google created Gmail For Your Domain with an invitation-only beta, which allowed Gmail to be used with a custom domain name. It featured 2GB of e-mail storage, and many of the standard Gmail features.

In August 2006, Google expanded on this service and developed Google Apps For Your Domain, incorporating more recent Google services, including Google Calendar, Google Talk, and Google Page Creator. Later, Google added a "Start Page" to all accounts, which is based on their iGoogle service.

In October 2006, Google allowed educational institutions to sign-up for the service as well, which was retitled Google Apps For Education. A large implementation of Google Apps is at Lakehead University in Ontario, Canada, where 38,000 users have Gmail and in-browser IM capabilities.

On 22 February 2007, Google launched a Premier Edition for enterprise, as well as making registration public for all Google Apps services. At the same time, all products were unified, and the online control panel was redesigned.

In June 2007, email migration from IMAP email services was added to Google Apps.

Office 2.0 from Google Apps

google applications Google’s deployment of the first Office suite is great. They’ve launched GHS for your Domain, a set of Google services targeted to small and mid sized companies. With this free service, anyone with a domain can use Gmail, Google Talk, Calendar and Web Page Creator under a single control panel.

We like Office documents stored on a online servers so that we can access it anywhere, anytime, instead of, or in addition to, local storage.

Microsoft’s Office 2007 has also come with such an idea, but god knows (and I know that I am never going to try this ever!!) of its functionalities. What I know is if I depend on Microsoft, I will risk my data being ripped off by Microsoft’s OS or a one of those regular crashes.

Play on…

How to add YouTube videos into your blog?

10:11 PM, Jul. 17, 2007  ..  0 comments  ..  0 trackbacks  ..  Link
Here's step bystep guide:

1. go to YouTube.com
2. search for your video
3. go to your desired video. let it play /stream. e.g. I did a search for Assam2007 and many videos and one of then is: Zubeen and Garima Garg at Assam 2007, Laurel, Maryland, USA
4. now look at the  right side of the video panel. you will see something like:

Embed (see image)

and then in the box there is the key! just click/highlight the box and copy (on your mouse, do right mouse click + copy)
and come to your Bihu.in blog. login.
add a new entry.
you will see a check-box and next to it is HTML (see image below). so clicking on this check box will being the raw HTML mode.

here you just do Control+V or do your mouse right-click and paste! voila.

now save / publish the post. and see it happening!

contact me if there is any problem.

here's the embeded video:

Firefox upgraded? seeing lots of X close buttons??

10:38 PM, May. 28, 2007  ..  0 comments  ..  0 trackbacks  ..  Link
OK. here's something I want share. Recently I have removed my Firefox 1.5... and installed Firefox 2.0.. and what ... every tab (Control + T) comes with a close butto, insead of just one X button at the end of the tabs.

So, here's the solution I found on the Firefox help site:

1. Open a new tab and type    about:config     in the address bar and press enter
2. you will see many options, most probably  alphabetically listed. Go down to browser.tabs.closeButtons .
3. Double-click on the entry and enter the corresponding number below:

0 - Display a close button on the active tab only
1 - Display a close button on each tab (default)
      2 - Don’t display any close buttons
3 - Display a single close button at the end of the tab bar

I have set mine as 0 - the close button now come son the active tab only and so no accidental close now on...

Enjoy!
